Pretest questions are not marked and do not count toward your score. The question counts come from the October 7, 2026 content outlines. The time, passing score and fees come from the candidate handbook, which says "The Department of Commerce and Insurance has selected 70 as the passing score for reporting purposes." If you pass, your score report just says "pass"; a failing report shows a number. Taking Life and Accident and Health together online with OnVUE costs $80; at a test center each exam is taken alone in its own session.

Scheduling and test day

Retakes

After a first failed attempt you wait 10 days before retaking. After each later attempt you wait 30 days.

Do I need a pre-licensing course in Tennessee?

Not for Life or Accident and Health. The Department of Commerce and Insurance's licensing page lists a 30-hour pre-licensing course only for the title insurance line, and Tennessee Code 56-6-106 requires it only for title.
