How to get a life and health insurance license in Pennsylvania

Last updated

The steps to become a licensed life or accident and health insurance producer in Pennsylvania, from PSI's Pennsylvania bulletin and the Pennsylvania statutes (40 P.S., read on FindLaw).

The steps

  1. Study for the exam. Each exam has 100 scored questions spread over PSI's content sections, with Pennsylvania law inside them. The current statute does not require a pre-licensing course. See the exam guide.
  2. Schedule and pass the exam with PSI. The fee is $45 per exam. You can choose a test center or remote proctoring.
  3. Get fingerprinted. 40 P.S. 310.5(a)(2) requires your fingerprints with the application, for an FBI criminal history check. The PSI bulletin says fingerprinting is done through IdentoGO.
  4. Apply for the license. 40 P.S. 310.5(a) lists what you send: the application with your lines of authority, your fingerprints, proof that you passed the exam, and the license fee. The resident fee is $55.

Costs

The fingerprinting fee is not on the pages above, so check it when you book.
